The studio
Design begins with listening.
Web of Life works across its continuing Auroville studio and Hyderabad workshop, creating sculptural objects, lighting and furniture from the intelligence already present in natural materials.
A living material practice
“A piece of wood is not a blank surface. It arrives with weather, movement and a history of its own.”
The studio works between art and function, preserving the truest shapes of found wood and stone while giving them a new place in contemporary life.
The process
- 01
Encounter
The material is studied before an object is imagined.
- 02
Reveal
Carving follows grain, pressure, hollows and natural form.
- 03
Refine
Function and finish are introduced without erasing memory.
Founder & sculptor
Ravi Varma
Ravi's practice is driven by a fascination with the forms that nature leaves behind. Web of Life's founding studio continues in Auroville alongside its Hyderabad workshop. Across both places, he works with artisans and collaborators to translate those forms into singular objects and spatial pieces.
